Bonnie Sharplin

Nepal has won Bonnie’s heart. Now retired, she is spreading the word about the lack of educational opportunities in Nepal, is involved in fundraising in Edmonton, assists local Nepali volunteers on her yearly visits to Nepal, then brings first hand news back to Canada. Having spent several weeks each year living as a Nepali, not as a tourist, she knows just how difficult everyday life is there, compared to ours in Canada. She visits our volunteers, our students, their teachers, and some of the parents, getting a sense of how everything is progressing.  She also sees how the contributions from Canada are making a positive impact and creating new opportunities for the students, their families and their communities.

Bonnie’s professional background is education. She taught in the public school system, was librarian of an instructional materials centre, and held an administrative position. In a volunteer capacity, she has facilitated Life Skills Training courses, created curricula, provided teacher training, taught ESL, spoken publicly and written articles on many subjects, including education topics.

In addition to NCEP, she also been active in promoting environmental conservation and awareness, fair trade, religious freedom, women’s issues and children’s safety.  She tries to balance volunteer time and monetary contributions equally between foreign and local causes.

Bonnie’s words to live by: Above all, do no harm, do not pass by.

Share Our Vision. Spread the Word.
